so today I am going to post a very refreshing and tasty summer drink..
NANNARI SHERBATH.. I am sure most of you would have tasted it. the syrup is available is most of the department stores in south.but in pune I couldn't find it..also I decided to make the syrup at home..with jaggery ...yes.. no sugar..no artificial flavours.. and completely healthy for kids..

Every year I will be in Chennai  for summer vacations... this year we decided to be in pune.. so when I tried to find nannari roots..all I was able to find are either instant syrup or some online store selling nannari roots.. so I did some digging..atlast I found a website where they sell all organic stuffs.they also deliver all over india on nominal charges..the website is www.nattumarundhukadai.com.

but if you are from tamilnadu, I am sure you will get nannari roots in all ayurvedic shops..
I bought the powder from the website, which I am going to use directly.

Nannari is also known as Indian sarasaparilla /ananthamool in hindi.
nannari is used for various purpose like blood purifier, urinary infection, improving digestion etc.. in Ayurveda.
Nannari is an excellent body coolant.. so this natural homemade drink will be refreshing and healthy in this summer...

it might be a tedious process...but  totally worth it..so do try it.. I am sure this healthy homemade nannari sherbath will be a total hit in your home๐Ÿ‘..

NANNARI SYRUP RECEIPE:

Preparation time : 12 hours
cook time            : 1 hour
total time             : 13 hours

INGREDIENTS:

Nannari root powder   :  100gms / 1 cup
jaggery powdered        : 5 cups
water                            : 5 cups

HOW TO MAKE NANNARI SYRUP:

1. first of all add 1 cup of nannari powder into a big vessel.. add 4 cups of water to the nannari roots powder.

now whisk the mixture well with a whisk or a spoon into a homogeneous mixture. and let it stand overnight or 8 -10 hrs

2.the next day morning you will find the water would have turned into  a dark brown colour.

3. now filter the mixture using a fine sieve or a clean cotton cloth. I would suggest a clean cotton cloth as it would remove all the fine particles..filter it 2-3 times until all the fine particles are removed.

the clear filtered liquid will look like this

4. now lets prepare the jaggery syrup. I am using the remaining 1 cup water to filter the jaggery.
add 1 cup of water to 5 cups of jaggery powder and bring it to boil. when all the powdered jaggery  is dissolved ,switch of the flame and filter the jaggery mixture. this step is to remove any impurities in the jaggery.

5. now we have the nannari roots water and jaggery syrup.
to make the nannary syrup, take a big vessel . say double the size of the total contents of the liquid.
this is to ensure that the syrup doesn't spill while boiling..
in a big vessel add the jaggery syrup and nannari roots water.

6. now keep the vessel in the stove and let it boil on high flame.. initially the mixture will start boiling , but say after 20 -30 mins try to keep the flame in medium and stir the mixture once in a while.

now clearly  you can see the level of the contents is almost upto half of the vessel..
let it boil for 30 mins...

now if you notice after 30 mins the level have gone down considerably... now its time keep the flame in medium..

7.  now with a spoon if you try to take the mixture , you will find that the syrup is not completely coating the spoon. so lets boil it more for another 30 mins.

( the time depends upon the vessel used.. for me after 1 hour I got the correct consistency. so the consistency should be like honey)

8. after 1 hour my syrup is ready, you can notice now the consistency is that of honey

the syrup is ready. switch of the flame. let the syrup comes to room temperature.
also note the level have come down to almost 1/4th of the initial level.

9. now once the syrup cools down, transfer it to a clean glass bottle and it can be refrigerated and used upto 30 days.since I am not adding any artificial preservatives this is a totally healthy summer drink.

I am sure by the time the syrup is prepared the entire house will have a sweet aroma of the nannari.

to prepare the nannari sherbath, add 4-5 tbsp. of the syrup ,squeeze half a lemon and 3/4 glass of cold water... yippee your homemade healthy refreshing nannari sherbath is ready..

I am sure this is much more healthy option for summer. rather than store bought instant bottled drinks.. so do make this health nannari syrup at home and enjoy...also don't forget to let me know how it turned out.. ..
I will be back with another exciting receipe soon.. until then friends.. have a happy vacation..tata๐Ÿ‘‹
